The inquisitor? He and Garalax could be buddies?

I see Jandor as the master of torture as a means of upholding the "law" and being dedicated completely to the discipline of extracting information and inflicting non-lethal pain.

*comes in humming the "Police" tune "King of Pain"*

A theme song? YES! The inquisitor. The painmaster. Loved by Goblins and Orcs alike, embraced by weaselly humans. Accepted, perhaps barely, by some of the ruling class as a necessary means of information gather ind interrogation.

Yeesh all that work I had LOST! Luckly I keep a copy of my work around here somewhere! *Tromps through his computer files till he finds his write up* Ahh here it is!

Jandor: Lord of Pain and Torment.
Sometimes refereed to as “The Barbed Whip” among humans.
Lesser Power, Lawful Evil.
Portfolio: Pain, Torture, Torment, Suffering, and Agony

Allies:

Syth: The Lord of Tyrrany often calls upon Jandor and his followers as extractors of information. Syth relies upon the Jandorite pain touch to force oponets into submission and the revelation of secrets. Needless to say this does not enhance Jandorites reputations.

Diadria- The mistress of death is a minor ally to Jandor. Sometimes pain causes death and sometimes death causes pain. However since death in and of itself is a release from mortal pain their relationship is luke warm at best.

Sembrel – Even if it is only a one way alliance Jandor admires Sembrel. Since where there is war there is injury and where there is injury there is pain Jandor’s clerics have little prejudice against the mighty warriors of sembrels legions.

Mahacto – For many of the reasons Jandor likes Sembrel.

Ballog – While a chaotic god Ballog’s followers are an evil lot whom are totally unopposed to causing pain and torment to others. Jandor and Ballog would get along well.

Foes:
Celina – The Lady of the Cure and Jandor do not relate at all. Jandors animosity towards her healing arts and methods of redressing pain make Jandorites view her as a weak willed god of emotion. Jandorites have been known to swear blood oaths to rid the land of Celinas influence and attempt to cause as much pain to her followers as possible.

Tyre – For many of the reasons Jandor hates Celina he hates Tyre. While without life pain cannot exist Tyre’s policies towards life and vitally annoy Jandor.

Most Gods – Jandor is on friendly terms with very few of the gods aligned with good since they believe he his evil. While Jandor admits to himself he is not the nicest being to touch thardferr he is far from the cruelest. There are a few gods that would tolerate him and less that would be his friend (I listed possible allies and obvious foes above)

Symbol: A whip with 9 barbed tails.
Name of Church: Circle of Torment
Holy Book: Lexicon a Cruciatus (Lexicon of Pain)
Worship Alignment: CN,LE,NE, and CE
Outer Realm: Hell I dunno I just started this crap today =)
Clergy Alignment: LE, NE, CE
Dogma of Jandorites:

Intro: Jandorites believe that all life is pain. Their most precious motto is "In Pain is truth.” After all pain crumples all, from the mightiest warrior to the most common peasant.
Painmasters are rarely seen wearing heavy armor as injury in combat is seen as a blessing not an anathema. Priests of Torment are the more militant arm of the Jandorite Church and thus may wear better armor than a painmaster.

Major Centers of Worship: The only two known permanent temples to Jandor are located in Proudtown and Rattletownbranch. Other places of worship are secretly held as most commoners persecute the Lord of Pain’s followers. (Recent example in DOWNS…. Advantage to starting a damn riot eh?)

Priest Rankings: As the Priests of Jandor are limited in places of worship they are mostly an underground religion with the two major temples acting as the central hubs of the church. Most of the priests are wanderers spreading the religion of pain across the face of Thardferr.

The Flayed: These are the newest initiates to the Circle of Torment. They are constantly put through arduous torments by the elder Painlords to test their endurance and fortitude as well as their devotion to the oaths of pain. Often times horrible scars are left on the backs of the young priests. Both the Specialty priests and regular Clerics must become Flayed before they can travel out into the world.

Specialty Priest Rankings:

Nightwalkers: These are the first rank of Specialty priests and the starting place of any PC priests (If they are allowed). Their mission is to spread the dark word of Jandor throughout the 6 kingdoms of Thardferr.

Torturers: These are the next rank in the church of Jandor they are generally glorified Nightwalkers. They can draw a minute amount of pay from the coffers of their church when they visit. (Amount not to exceed 1 gp) .

Painwalkers: These are full-fledged priests of Jandor. They Like the earlier nightwalkers and torturers travel about the lands. However these men travel in a wider arc and rarely return to the main temples in Proudtown and Rattletown Branch. The draw the same pay from the church coffers.

Painlords: These are the eldest of the traveling priests. They are the true conversion priests. They are the ones that induct members into the church using the ritual of the pin (See Ceremonies). They are also the base caretakers of the 2 temples in Ruch. As well as the ones who Flay the newer members and train the Nightwalkers in matters of the church. All Painlords must spend one month a year cloistered in the one of the main Temples of Pain

Constrictors: These are the high priests of Jandor. They act in council. There are five 2 for each temple and one who walks the lands of Ruch surveying the makeshift temples in caverns, wooded clearings , or whatever natural cover can be found. Some of the younger and less wise members of the church believe constrictors have the ability to stop the very hearts of their foes killing them in an instant.

Jandor’s Advocates: These are the head caretakers of the mundane affairs of the churches main temples. They are 2 in number. Their duties include the training of new members and the general upkeep of guild coffers and temples. They are also responsible for the safety of the highest member of the clergy. Known only as Jandor’s Will.

Jandor’s Will: All who worship the Lord of Misery and Torment From all over the world Jandorites come to receive his blessings. The Will of Jandor is chosen by the Rituals of Pain. There is only one Will of Jandor and he acts as Jandor’s voice on Thardferr. It is believed by the clergy that Jandor’s Will converses through the planes of exsistance to the very heart of the realms of pain and torment to their lord. Jandor’s will remains cloistered in whichever temple he received his vestments as a Nightwalker in.

Ranks of Priests of Torment (Clerics): There are few ranks 3 infact. They are more militant than the Painmaster and thus are the guardians of the faith. All Priests of Torment gain religious training from Painlords

Painling – This is the rank new Priests of Torment start out as. These are the youngest and least trained members of the Jandorian defense. They leave temples on tours of duty to aid the Nightwalkers as the stronger arm of the guild. A player character cannot advance beyond this point as a Priest of Torment as higher ranks are required to spend the rest of their lives in defense of the main temples

Defender of the Pain- These are the next rank of clerics. They spend most of their lives in the Temple they received their vestments in.

Champion of Pain: The leader of the Priest of Torment is not a priest. He is a specially chosen warrior appointed by Jandor’s will as Lord High Guardian of the Circle of Torment. He is responsible for the defense of both the main temples as well as the training of the militant aspects of the priests of Torment. NOTE: NOT A CLERIC.

Rules of the Jandorite:
Jandorites must cause pain to themselves or one other living thing once per day. (At least 1 hp of damage or the use of the Paintouch). If this is not met the Priest of Torment or Painmaster looses all spells and abilities for 1 day. (Note: A Painmaster may not Paintouch himself)

If a Jandorite allows a person to die without attempting to aid him (within his ability such as if the painmaster is locked in mortal combat or unconscious he will not be punished.) This only entails saving their life. The Jandorite will not cure their wounds unless it is to stop their death. Jandorite view death as an anathema as it removes one from pain. The punishment for allowing a preventable death is loss of powers and spells for a space of 1 day.

A Jandorite may only take a life in battle, as death is the end to life's pain. If a Jandorite ever takes a life outside of battle (On purpose), he shall have all spells and powers removed for the space of one week.

Painmasters: (Specialty Priests)

Painmaster may use the THAC0 of a Warrior of the same level if and only if they are using a scourge or whip.

Upon reaching the 3rd level a Painmaster may cast Cause Light Wounds once per day (Does not count against spell memorization). Upon attaining the 9th level, he may use this ability twice per day.

Religious Ceremonies:

Rituals of the Pain:
There are three trials that choose the next Will of Jandor.
First is the test of Endurance. – The tested priest must receive pain from each of the Advocates. If the priest fails this test he is slain as unworthy to receive any more pain on this earth.
Second is the Test of Giving- The tested must cause enough pain to cause one of the Advocates to wilt under his ability. Failure to render the advocate unconscious from pain results in instant slaying of the tested by the Champion of Pain.
Third and finally is the Test of Self: IN this test a priest must inflict pain upon himself as to cripple himself in a way that will cause him to live in pain for the rest of his days. Only this way may the Will of Jandor be in touch with his god at all times. Few can withstand this test. As always the failure is death.

Ritual of the Pin- This is how new priests are introduced to the ranks of the Flayed. When a Painlord in his travels encounters a worthy man he inducts him with the ritual of the pin. A pin crafted from Iron blessed by Jandor’s Will is inserted into the vein of the Painlord and then stuck into a vein of the inductee. The pin must remain in place in the Inductee until the he completes his time as a Flayed.

Ritual of the Lashing: All Painmasters must ,when the 3 moons are in exact alignment, Flay themselves within an inch of their life. Priests of Torment are exempt from this as they are the only defense the church has during this holy time.

Death of the Pain: On this day all Jandorites wail and grieve for those that have left this world behind and all its joyous pain. On this day no priest may cast spells or cause pain. This results in a loss of favor for the next day as Jandor is a rather unforgiving god.

Now there were modificaitons to this as Nyr pointed out in PoL Part 1 but I lost them as I never saved them to file

Abilities of Painmaster:

Tourture
Paintouch with Partial Immunity from it

Clerics of Torment:
Cause light wounds 1/day at 3rd level.

Those are the revised powers in short but the torture is speciallized and results in little damage to the victim. Not saying that joe bob the fighter cant cut his victim up nice and neat but hs gonna cause alot of damage before getting done while the painmaster might just bruise him alittle.

Etc etc etc if Nyr has the details we worked out so long ago my memmory fails me

Alright, time to kick start this thread again.

We need to setup the PPI, SPI, and Areas for Jandor once more. If I might suggest.

PPI: Suffering
SPI: Pain, Torture, Torment
Areas: Inquisition, Insults, Huh??

I like persecution as an area rather than outcasts. Good idea, Isaac, but I think persecution fits a bit better.

PPI: Suffering
SPI: Pain, Torture, Torment
Areas: Inquisition, Insults, Persecution

I dont know how Insults came to be an aera... Persecution I can understand but Insults not so much. Abuse seems to fit better at least from what my idea of Jandor is. Insults not so much.
Perhaps Endurance...could be considered an area but im not sure if that hasnt already been claimed

I'd agree with you Loy, which is why I started tossing out other ideas. Endurance is a cool idea and in keeping with the main focus of Jandor. Enduring pain, loving it, cultivating it.

I don't like insults, either.

Terrarrie and Thr are endurance already, I think.

How about... adversity?

Anguish, pain, and torment? Those three are very close. Pain and Torment are seperate, somewhat... anguish blends in too well.
