Ranblar Slatebreaker kept glancing up from his fire he had built alongside of the road.  It was a small affair, with just enough to keep him warm and to cook the small hare he had brought down earlier that day.  He was grumbling to himself about the young innkeep a few miles back who just couldn't take a joke.  It wasn't really her fault after all that the keep's hat was made of staw.  And that his door didn't latch.  And that the bar just the right height for her to reach over.

He glanced over at the only friend the young dwarf currently had.  Aye, but she was a beauty!  Strong as and ox with the grace of a gazel!  At least, that's what young Ranblar told himself all the time.  Daiseycakes the donkey (his 'wardonkey') just met his gaze with a bit of a snort and them licked at the ale he had just poured for himself.  He wrinkled his nose at the drool that dripped from her mouth all down his glass.

"Durned fool arse!"  he cried at he snatched the glass.  He eyed it a bit and then chuckled.  "Can't help it can ye though? I be likin' me ale as well."

And with that, he downed the rest of the glass, ignoring the bits of ale and saliva that dripped down into his still growing gold and copper beard.

"Aye, that be a fine ale...ain't it, Daiseycakes?"

Daiseycakes shakes her head about sending the long ears and mohawk-like mane shifting side to side. Leaning in the donkey takes a sniff or two in the bearded knee-highs face and starts biting and sucking at the dwarves beard trying to get left overs of the alcohol out. As the dwarf starts batting and hollering for the donkey to get back ole Daiseycakes jumps alert tensing up before running off. Something spooked the poor donkey and while it's never fun to see your war steed run off like a chicken there was something funny about how it ran off swinging its head about and kicking at ghosts.

After the dwarf catches up to the donkey its now nearly dusk and the dwarf can see the light from a camp fire just over the next hill on the plains.

Ranblar's huffing and panting by the time he finally catches up with his faithful donkey.  He shakes his gauntleted fist in Daiseycakes'  face.  While he considered himself in good shape, he usually had a ride for long distances.

"Yer lucky I promised yer sire that I'd be lookin' after ye!  Ut'wise, I'd be 'avin' arse onna spit!"

He sighed just a bit and then patted her neck.

"Aye, ye just needed a bitta run , dinja?"

He grabbed the reins as he noticed the campfire over the hills.  He gave her a gentle pull in that direction.  Perhaps they'd have a nice skin of the good stuff that they'd be willing to share.

The dwarf and his faithful steed make it over the hill and find a dwarf sitting next to a campfire. The dwarf notices Ranblar's approach and waves a hand up "Oi!". Standing up the dwarf nods to his fellow bearded brother "Welcome cousin. Nice to see another of my kin round these parts. What brings you out here?"

Over the fire ranblar can see a trio of birds skewered and spinning over the flames. Scattered about the campsite are several large packs and what seems to be some digging utensils.

The young Slatebreaker grins ear to ear beneather his beard as he spies the roasting birds, and being cooked by one of his fellow bearded folk!  He can hear his belly rumbling just a bit at the sight and he takes a step forward.

"Actually, I just be headin' out to find some adventurin!  Me pap's pap said I be needin' to get me 'ead on straight and that gettin' a bit o the life he 'ad was just what I could use.  Ranblar o' the Slatebreakers."

He nods a bit to the supplies around the camp.

"And what 'bout yerself?"

The little dwarf nods and motions for ranblar to take a seat. "Verthunak Gembeard" the little dwarf says smiling stroking his beard, the campfire reflecting off the many gems placed in his beard. "Well, I find myself out here tonight because my mule ended up with the stonebruise in one of her hooves. Had to put her down, quick and clean better than leaving her to be picked off by some rotten animal trying to eat'er for dinner." The dwarf shakes his head and sighs as he leans into the fire and plucks the kabobed rodents out extending the point to Ranblar. He waits for his fellow dwarf to take one of the rodents off before taking one of himself. "Tell ya what, I be gettin tired of lugging all this round myself. You let that fine creature of yours do some of the carrying and i'll cut you in." Reaching into his shirt he pulls out the tip of a piece of parchment before tucking it back in and leaning towards the fire. His wide eyes gleaming off the firelight as much as the jewelry in his beard hissing out a slow drawl "Treasure."

Ranblar feels his tummy rumbling just a bit, and gladly takes the offered little morsel.  Ignoring the juices which were running down his gauntlet, he digs right in.  Not bad at all, he thinks appreciatively to himself. He nods a bit as Verthunak pitches him idea about using Daiseycakes.  The young Slatebreaker was only nodding to be polite, he surely didn't like the idea of using his beautiful wardonkey as a mere pack animal.  But then...

"Treasure?!"  pieces of dinner come tumbling from his mouth.  His eyes gleam a bit as he gazes at the parchment.  Treasure...now that was something he could boast of back in the Halls.  Surely his grandsire would agree treasure hunting is a fine way of coming into dwarfhood.

Verthunak nods and smiles a toothy smile. "Aye, treasure. Mounds of it. Gleaming silvers and golds, jewels, weapons, armors and arts all of fine quality and much worth." The little dwarf holds the parchment up "Killed me many a pirate to get my hands on this little scrap o' paper. Even a captain or two. So whaddya say mate, you in for halves or am I gonta be luggin this stuff all by my onesy."
