DM: Scionist
Region: Windtown and Silverstown
Written by:  Daigotsu (75xp/lvl for TT)

PCs: Lalina, Daigotsu, Vander (later)
NPCs: Perris, Drunken Dwarves

Exp: 55xp/lvl/4hrs

Short Summary: At the Kronidars' estate in Windtown, a halfling by the name of Perris brings Lalina a summons from his brother Cherris. Daigotsu agrees to go with her into Khardfee and then Aldred. Together the three leave the city; either on foot or horseback. Deciding to take the faster Trade Way, Perris informs them of some troubles within the woods concerning missing caravans. Deciding to help out Perris even before reaching him, Lalina steers the group towards Silverstown to learn more information. There, while Lalina and Daigotsu go get some sleep at some acquired rooms, an old friend finds himself in trouble. Vander, with the help of a spell and the halfling Perris, avoid some drunken dwarves before going to sleep themselves. The next morning, Vander greet's the group. His motives for following them are questioned and he apparently confesses his love for Lalina. The session finishes up as Lalina begins to search for information concerning the missing wares.

Long Summary:

Her meal interrupted, Lalina; with Daigotsu in tow; made her way through her family's estate to the front entrance where she was told someone was waiting for her. Finding it to be a halfling who introduced himself as Veris only after Lalina had mistaken him for his brother Cherris. Producing a message that did in fact come from Perris, the daughter of the duke of Windtown discovered that the conclave master was looking for help down in Heartville. Without mentioning the details, Lalina invites her companion, the young, foreign, blademaster named Daigotsu along for the trip. Agreeing, and hoping to see some interesting sites, the three (including Perris now) decide to leave in the morning. As such, everyone goes to get their gear. The next morning, they all meet again at the entrance to the Kronidars' estate. Perris had a pony, Lalina a horse, and Daigotsu had his own two feet. After thinking about getting the boy a horse, Daigotsu decides against it, an experienced walker.

And so the trio leave Windtown, heading south. After talking about some strange occurrences in the Thorn Woods that Perris had heard about, they decide to take the Trade Way. A shorter distance to travel, with possible hazards that Lalina had hoped to deal with anyhow as a favor to Perris before arriving. Traveling for a few days, the group eventually reaches the dwarven town of Silverstown. Heading in with only the slightest bit of ogling from the guards, the trio make their way to an inn that had been pointed out to them. While Perris dealt with the horses, Daigotsu and Lalina... obviously tired, went to their rooms to get some rest and pray The blademaster noticed someone looking at the group for a moment, but deemed it didn't require a mention when he lost track of whoever it was immediately.

Having just left the inn, having recognized the two who has just entered, the mage Vander ducked down an alleyway, likely to gather his thoughts. Unknown to him however, he stumbled into a pair of drunken dwarves. Hostile from the start, and unable to properly communicate between each other, trouble seemed on the horizon. Perris, having been outside, heard the commotion after a tip from the stable boy. Seein exactly what kind of trouble was about to start, he decided to attempt to intervene. A quick melee ensued, Perris knocking one of the dwarves down in surprise while Vander dodged a warhammer to cast a spell on the defensive. Suddenly, a group of guards appeared at the entrance to the alleyway as if 'summoned' by Vander. The drunken dwarf who was still standing decided it was time to leave.

Introducing themselves, after Vander makes his illusionary guards dance a jig, Vander and Perris decided to bunk down for the night as well. The next morning, Lalina and Daigotsu would be in for a surprise. As expected, Lalina was quite dubious when she saw who sat with Perris the next morning. While the halfling taught the foreign blademaster about the local coin, Lalina questioned Vander fiercely. Claiming he was there to spy on the group was a lie the hopebringer easily saw through, her normally cheerful demeanor somewhat afflicted with suspicion since the trap laid out for her only a week or so earlier. It was then that Vander broke down and proclaimed his love for Lalina. Kissing her hand, he claimed he'd ordered himself to follow her. Without much comment, Lalina took to the barkeep and began her investigation...

Written by: Daigotsu (75xp/lvl for TT)

PCs: Lalina, Daigotsu, Vander, Crag
NPCs: Perris, Various Dwarves, Wounded Hobgoblin

Exp: 65xp/lvl/5hrs

Short Summery:

Lalina investigates the attacks on the caravans further, learning that the town had sent out a small force of guardsmen to deal with the attackers. The group decides to follow them, trying to head off trouble and possibly solve the situation peacefully. Acompanying them when they leave is a dwarf named Crag who was interested in keeping the town safe. The group eventually follows a trail off the path leaving the city, and into the Thorn Woods. Eventually finding some blood, and the wounded hobgoblin who it belongs too; the group finds some answers and set's up a deal.

Long Summery:

Lalina speaks with the barkeep to learn that the town guards intend to do something about the attacks on thier caravans. Deciding to learn more about that, Daigotsu and Lalina head that way. While Perris, Vander, and Crag meet up and discuss a few things. At the guard's post, Lalina learns that Captain Beskerd; one of thier leaders; had gone off in order to invetigate and possibly end the attacks on the caravans passing through Thorn Woods.

Heading back to the others, Lalina asks them if they're interested in possibly catching up with the others. Quickly, they agree and set out; following the directions given earlier. The dwarf; introduced to the group as Crag, also decided to come along in hopes of hewing some goblin heads and possibly helping to save the town some trouble. Following the road, they come to a point where numerous tracks branch off into the woods.

The group follows this new trail in hopes of finding the dwarves. In time, they find a point where blood is visible among the tracks (which are now more numerous). Following the blood, the group finds a heavily wounded hobgoblin. Quickly healing him; Lalina is soon being threatened by the creature. Quickly capturing it, Vander speaks to it in orcish and discovers who he is; at least after calming him down.

Kuglash introduces himself as the local hobgoblin chief. The group questions him concerning the raids. He in turn explains that his tribe has been forced to do it, as most of the wildlife has been driven away by a mage. Lalina tries to make the best of the situation by learning more about the mage with the green band, and setting up a deal where the dwarves pay and feed the hobgoblins in return for them guarding the caravan.

Written by: Daigotsu (75xp/lvl for TT)

PCs: Lalina, Daigotsu, Vander, Crag, W'Shemyil
NPCs: Perris, Hobgoblins, Dwarves, Captain Beskerd, Mage, Unknown Armored Figure.

Exp: 75xp/lvl/5hrs + individual bonus and multipliers

Short Summary:

The deal quickly sorted out, the group; minus Vander; heads off to find the dwarves. Instead they first find numerous dead hobgoblins, many of thier throat's slit. Many of them not warriors. Continuing; they find a staggering dwarf with a heavy neck wound. Healing him, much as they did for the hobgoblin. While Lalina tends to the wounded dwarf, the others rush ahead towards the sound of battle. Finding hobgoblins fighting dwarves, and hobgoblins fighting hobgoblins... the group quick rushes to put people down. After a brief combat, it is revealed this confusing battle was caused by the wizard. Lalina later appears, with the wizard all tied up.

Long Summary:

Releasing the hobgoblin chief from his restraints, the group leaves Vander to discuss the details of the deal while the rest of them go in search of the dwarves. Further into the forest however, all them come across are more dead hobgoblins. Even further into the forest; those following the tracks find an extremly wounded (and done recently) dwarf. healing him from a range, Lalina stops the wound while Daigotsu rushes ahead to see if he was still alive. Finding him still breathing; though barely, it is revealed that he had been slit across the throat.

Hearing sounds of battle, ahead the group splits up. Lalina remains behind while the others go to investigate; Vander as well, having rejoined the others. Breaking into a clearing; they see an interesting and confusing battle. Hobgoblins fighting dwarves, and hogboglins fighting hobgoblins. Moving to break it up, Daigotsu quickly sets into them with punchs and kicks, knocking down three. Crag hews into them with his axe while Vander ties up one with a magical rope.

Soon, only the dwarves and two hobgoblins remain standing. The dwarves quickly give warning about a mage and a warrior, as if they had just come out of a haze of thier own. The hobgoblins turn to flee, one cut down by Crag and the other meeting a mysterious and noisy death in the forest just beyond the clearing. Going to investigate the sudden screams, Daigotsu hears a taunting voice and finds the hobgoblins dead, his throat slit.

As things settle down, everyone reunites in the clearing. Lalina brings with her a bound and held mage, much to everyone's surprise. Perris returns as well, running and screaming in fear. Getting hold of the halfling, the group learns that he had seen a man wearing strange blurry armor. Unable to see past his chest, the halfling had been taken with fright; though was calming down now that he was with the others. Introducing one another, the dwarves and the group tie up the hobgoblins in order to deal with them later. Of course, there is argument over exactly what was to be done; Lalina wanting the humanoids safe while the dwarves wanting them to stand trial and be executed.

After 15 minutes or so of stern talking, they finally all agree to take the hogoblins back with them to Silverstown, along with the mage, to stand trial. With luck, no one would need to die; as the hobgoblins had clearly been manipulated.

PCs: Lalina, Daigotsu, W'Shemyil, Crag, Vander (NPC'ed)

Exp: 55xp/lvl/5hrs

Short Summary: The group goes to the hearing and achieves its aims. The hobgoblins are cleared of the charges, though the mage is convicted. Daigotsu then talks to the mage and learns information that might lessen his sentence and lead the group, and the dwarves, to the root of the problem, the armored man.

Long Summary: Lalina explains why she needs to stay here, at least until the end of the hearing. The elf reluctantly agrees to stay on. A dwarf comes in to announce that the hearing will begin shortly and that Lalina and her group's presence is required. Lalina and the rest of the group move out and W'Shemyil decides to go with Lalina as well.

The group arrives and the magistrate begins to hear testimony. Captain Berskard gives his testimony, then Lalina gives her. The two are in agreement, though Lalina begins to explain and interpret the facts. She explains how when she went into the forest, she saw murdered hobgoblin woman and children. Captain Berskard takes offense at this and Lalina clarifies that she was not suggesting that Berskard and his men did it, but that whomever did -- likely the mage and the armored man -- likely did the storehouse rob and murder. Lalina further asks if any weapons from the storehouse were found among the hobgoblins and Berskard admits they were not. The magistrate clears the hobgoblins from wrongdoing and condemns the mage to death, unless he provides any information about the man in armor. He does not and the court adjourns with him being taken away.

The hobgoblin chief and the dwarven magistrate talk about the deal that Vandar and Lalina had initially discussed. The magistrate decides to work out the details of how much food the hobgoblins need and what they'll guard. Lalina also informs the magistrate about Crag's violent and hate-filled words and intentions towards the hobgoblins. The magistrate listens and orders Crag to go with Lalina to learn the ways of peace. Lalina then discusses with the magistrate about the local problems in the area and asks about the dwarf that was killed. The magistrate says it was his son and Lalina asks to see him, to see if she can do anything for him.

Meanwhile, Daigotsu goes to talk to the mage, named Corsair Lorandir, wanting to talk to a "sythian." He discovers the man doesn't speak sythian and isn't a sythian. He then questions the man about his role and learns that the man is not the real threat, as the armored man, named Malachai, was behind everything and forced him to work for him under threat of force. Daigotsu tells the mage he'll try to get him help and Daigotsu leaves. He makes his way back to Lalina and the magistrate and informs them. They move back to the jail and listen to the mage's story.

Exp: 65xp/lvl/4hrs

Short Summary: The group continues to talk to Corsair, who then escapes with magic. Lalina raises the magistrate's dead son amid much rejoicing from the dwarves.

Long Summary:
Corsair tells his story to the group and the magistrate:
"Malachai was a warrior of little scruples and even less love. That is to say he only loved to destroy. I disliked his methods and so did not deal with him until I found myself in quite a bind. I was in the service of a certain band of mercenaries and happened to pilfer some magic that was quite valuable. They were about to kill me when Malachai saved me. He had changed by then, become even more evil. I didn't think it was possible but he slaughtered them to a man. Slit each one of thier throats. He said I owed him and I had to come with him to do a job. He said he would give me powerful magics he had acquired and I would be able to keep them. In my lust for power I agreed and took the scrolls to study. Some months later he told me of his plan to wreak havok in the lands as a means of homage to his god. I then realized he was a ballogian. When I tried to leave him he vowed that he would torture me to no end if I did not serve him."

The group rightfully concludes that he is a servant of Ballog. The magistrate and the group ask Corsair for more information but the man says he knows little more. Corsair says he is telling the truth, as he is a dead man anyway - Malice will get to him, even under dwarven guard. The magistrate accepts his confession as truth and then asks the guards to bring quill and ink for Corsair to write it all done.

Lalina and the others leaves with the magistrate to see what she can do for his son. Daigotsu decides to stay behind with the prisoner. As Corsair writes everything he says, he begins to chat with Daigotsu. Corsair then reveals tattoos and explains to Daigotsu that he's written everything, including a note from Lalina. Then with a few wiggles of his fingers, he disappears.

Daigotsu calls for the guards who then scour the room, finding none. Lalina and the magistrate are quickly summoned back and the note is read:

"To whom it may concern, I am sorry but I cannot remain here with you. Malachai will inevitably seek me out here and easily find and kill me. I know that you will not give me back my tomes that I may defend myself and so I need to go and prepare other means to deal with Malachai. He is, as I told you an altogether evil man. I do not know how to find him and so I must trust that he will find me. When I have dealt with him I will return to pay my debt to your fair town. I apologize to the young Daigotsu for my abrupt departure. Please assure him that I will return and repay the favor he has done for me this day. With regards, Corsair Lorandir."

The magistrate and the captain realize there is nothing they can do about this situation and accept it. The group then accompanies Lalina and the magistrate to the body of the dead dwarf. Lalina examines the body of the dwarf and asks the magistrate some questions about his son, what kind of person he was, etc. After being satisfied, she then places her hand on his chest as her other hand moves in coordinated, exact movements. The words leaving her lips are prayers full of power - and Celenia answers, as the breath of the life returns to the magistrate's son. The magistrate, his wife and the others in the room are awed by the display of Celenia's power and quickly begin to swarm Lalina and the newly-living young dwarf. Lalina accepts the praise and thanks with dignity and the proper humility.

PCs: Lalina, Daigotsu

Exp: 75xp/lvl/3hrs (add multiplier)

Short Summary: Daigotsu and Lalina deal with two men who abuse a woman and child.

Long Summary:

In the Inn at Silverstown, Daigotsu notices a young girl curled up defensively in a ball. Daigotsu tries to comfort the girl and find out what's wrong, when a man barges out of the room, and says "She's all yours" to Daigotsu and threatens the little girl again. Daigotsu intercedes for the girl and a fight ensues between Daigotsu, the man and his friend.

Lalina hears the commotion and makes her up there, just as Daigotsu defeats both men by using non-lethal blows. He ties them up as Lalina sees to the young girl, easily healing the girl's wounds. However, the girl seems to have trouble breathing and Lalina recognizes the cause of it as illness, not wounds. She then prays to Celenia, asking her to bless this little girl and heal her affliction. The girl begins to breathe easier as the magic and power of Celenia flow through her.

Lalina leaves the two men to Daigotsu's expert hands as she goes inside the room with the girl. She tries to comfort the girl's mother who is lying injured on the bed. She approaches non-threateningly and explains that the woman is now safe. She succeeds in convincing the woman of her good intentions and makes good on this promise, as she heals the woman's wounds. The woman thanks Lalina for healing her girl's illness. Lalina notices the nature of the woman's wounds in the process and becomes extremely angry. She tells the woman that justice will be served.

She marches back outside and presses her staff uncomfortably against the man's chest, letting loose her fury for a moment. The man starts to insult her and she casts a spell, holding him in place -- including his vocal strings. The other man, however, presses forward and lets himself get killed by Daigotsu's blade. Daigotsu's ties the held man up and brings him to the magistrate, as per Lalina's request.

Lalina moves back in and listens to the woman's story, comforting her but also saying she needs to change her profession to protect herself and her child. Lalina gives the woman a pouch of coins so that she can get a new start. The woman begins to cry and thank Lalina profusely.

PCs: Lalina, Daigotsu, W'Shemyil, Vandar (NPC), Crag (NPC), Cethlyn

Exp: 85xp/lvl/4hrs

Short Summary: The group leaves Silverstown and makes the journey to Heartville, meeting up with Master Lacktur and a strange elven woman named Cethlyn.

Long Summary:

Lalina explains to the magistrate and his family that she needs to go; she also explains that it'll be sometime before his son will be back to his old self. The magistrate asks if there is anything he can do for her and she explains that he needs to find this Malice, or he'll cause more trouble for everyone. The magistrate agrees and Lalina says she is headed to Heartville, if there is any news which he needs to send to her.

As the group leaves the magistrate's home, they are greeted by a crowd of onlookers amazed at the feat of the priestess. Lalina makes her way through the crowd and begins to prepare for the journey to Heartville. With the exception of seeing a few guarded and suspicious caravans, the travel to Heartville is uneventful.

When they reach the rebuilding city, they quickly follow Perris to where Master Lacktur can be found. Lalina greets him warmly with a hug and he returns the embrace and the two begin to catch up. As they do, an elven woman named Cethlyn arrives and begins to talk to Lacktur. He explains to her that he had a vision while wondering why his friend and colleague, Berly, had to perish. He then witnessed a vision from Kreaon himself, who explained that Berly sacrificed herself for two individuals who will forever impact the lives of the elves - the two individuals being Cethlyn's children. Kreaon told Lacktur that Cethlyn's children are safe and will one day return to Cethlyn. That she can search for them but will not find them until the appointed time. Kreaon said the appointed time will be revealed to Cethlyn and Cethlyn only.

Lacktur tries to console and comfort a Cethlyn who breaks into tears. Lalina too, tries to help the woman - when Lalina is suddenly greeted by strange eyes and a very different voice. Lacktur explains that the group needs to deal with Malice but the group is more befuddled and taken by Cethlyn's seemingly rapid change of character - indeed, she introduces herself as Gregor, a man! Just as the group begins to grapple with Gregor, another personality emerges - Fionna and then another, Dharniel and then another, Maggie. The group tries to keep up with the introductions to all of these very different people seemingly inhabiting the same body!

PCs: Lalina, Daigotsu, W'Shemyil, Vandar (NPC), Crag (NPC), Cethlyn

Exp: 75xp/lvl/4hrs

Short Summary: The group speaks to Lacktur again and he asks them to seek out and eliminate the threat of Malice. This prompts a fiery response from Lalina. W'Shemyil and Lalina leave to seek out some information. Everyone regroups, discusses what they know and what to do next.

Long Summary:

The group meets up with Lacktur again. Lalina asks him what it was that he summoned her here to help with. He explains it was the caravans and, naturally, now he wants her to deal with Malice. At this, Lalina becomes upset - having abandoned chasing after Malice to come see Lacktur. She asks how she is supposed to find him now, with his trail now very old. Lacktur goes defensive and explains he's not ordering her to do anything (he can't order her around). Lalina gives her apology and explains her frustrations, which Master Lacktur understands.

W'Shemyil asks Lalina to trust him and he'll find out some clue as to where Malice is. Lalina eventually turns her back on the discussion, saying to Lacktur that she will find Malice and deal with this problem. She leaves his presence and finds someplace calm and quiet to pray. Meanwhile, W'Shemyil leaves to do his information gathering.

After some time, W'Shemyil, Lalina and the rest meet up, telling what they've learned. W'Shemyil explains that he learned of a barkeep contact who may know where Malice is. Lalina comes back calmer and with a glow of exhaustion and power. She explains what she learned: That Malice is the southern Thorn Wood, that his next target is to destroy the home of the Great Owl (whomever or whatever that is), that his weakness is Corsair and that Corsair is in the Greenwood. She also reaffirms that Cethlyn's children are safe. The group is a little amazed at Lalina's resourcefulness to find information (and some are a little annoyed at her earlier anger about losing the trail, when she seemed to pick it up easily).

No one knows what the "Great Owl" is, however. They ask Master Lacktur, but he doesn't know either - though he says he'll try to research it. The group then discusses whether they should go visit W'Shemyil's contact or try to find Corsair or if they should go directly for Malice.

Casualties: None

Session high points: More great RP

Session low points: Learning that after traveling all this way, the group has to turn around and go back from where they came!

Other PC's Present: Gul-Shad (Coopersvilleforge Only), Hiowa (Coopersvilleforge & Bordertown), Jan'doire (Coopersvilleforge Only)

Location:
1) Coopersvilleforge
2) Edilarian Treehouse
3) Navelorn
4) Bordertown

Experience (75xp/lvl/19hrs)
Short Version:
Now that the 4th Sythian War has ended, the group reunites in Coopersvilleforge to celebrate. Welcoming old companions and saying goodbye to others, the group is surprised when Damian inadvertantly offers Swaniff some insight into his past. Investigating further, Swaniff finds a lead in Navelorn with an elven priest of Tyre, which leads him to Bordertown, searching for a brother he never knew that was trained by elven friends of his family.

Long Version:
Following the 4th Sythian War, word goes out to reunite the companions who led the Edilarian Offensive. As the word travels, so too do the scattered companions to Coopersvilleforge to Mnuxim's tavern. Arriving over the span of days, or in some cases, weeks. The various companions reunite for simple fellowship and to see how the war had treated each and everyone. However, during the festivities, it was Damian who seemed to spoil them suddenly by bringing up some information about Swaniff that surprised the ranger totally. Dismissing his knowledge as some sort of magical accident, Damian makes amends by offering to look further into the matter for Swaniff and with Mnuxim's permission, they utilize the gnome's personal rooms to search for the answers on the next day.

With Damian scrying for answers to the questions raised, it proved that the progenitors of the Osraige line were indeed dead and long since devoured by the creatures beneath the ground. However, moving to the other figure in the strange vision, it turns out to be an elf in a strange location. After watching for several minutes, the elf takes notice of the scrying and heads back to his room, having a table set in welcome for those who would scry him. With Swaniff recognizing the place as Navelorn, the two return to the main room to gather their companions. There, they learn that Gul-Shad has other pressing business and is unable to join them, and seeminly, so too does Jan'doire as the elf also departs. However, the departure of the two allows for the welcome of Terpsichore, a strange, masked individual.

With Damian's assistance, the group that is intent upon Swaniff's past, treks just outside of Coopersvilleforge so that Damian's magic can have an effect as the whole of the group is teleported to Damian's treehouse in Edilar, near where the fortress still looms in the distance. There, they settle in for the night to ponder what the morning will bring. They spend several days preparing supplies and equipment, never knowing what the future will bring them.

By the morning of the six day of their gathering, the group descends to the ground level beneath the treehouse. There, they each get magical steeds conjured by Damian which move with far greater speed than many things that anyone else has encountered. With Damian leading the way to the main road in Edilar, he then turns over the command to Swaniff to lead the group the rest of the way into Navelorn. There, they are stopped by a patrol, though Swaniff quickly speaks to them with some familiarity of events in Navelorn and is welcomed into the city. There, the group goes to meet the odd elf, L'sateire, who turns out to be a priest of Tyre and an old friend of Swaniff's parents. It's here, that it turns out the contents of Damian's vision were not about Swaniff, but rather, about a brother he never knew about. L'sateire goes on to explain how Swaniff's brother was brought up in a secretive mage guild in Bordertown and should still be found within that city if the war has not claimed him. Thanking the elf for his information, the group departs and then by chance meets the leader of the city, M'Arties, who invites the heroes to dinner for a chance to speak and dine with them to avoid the pressures of the city. Having a pleasant meal and staying the night, the group relaxes in the comfort of Navelorn after studying the city a bit more in detail.

On day seven, the group teleports once more with Damian's help and arrive a few leagues outside of Bordertown in a spot that Damian has studied in the past. There, they find an odd campsite and a face from a few days prior in Mnuxim's tavern, that they are unable to explain. Unsure what to think of the odd encounter, they beat a hasty retreat and into the city proper. There, Damian enlists the aid of a gate guard to get some information and after a brief conversation, he's directed to a nearby tavern, The Golden Gryphon, where he should be able to get the answers he seeks. Heading that direction, Thragnar falls afoul of a pair of pick pockets, whom he quickly deals with before slipping into the tavern to speak to the dwarven barkeep, Hargash Klasrich. It's with Hargash's help that Swaniff's brother, Darius is brought up in the conversation. Finding one of his brother's associates in the bar, Swaniff goes over to talk to the halfling, Cornelius, who appears intoxicated. Further investigation by the group reveals something is strange in the room, but Swaniff makes it through the discussion with ease so that Cornelius finally introduces Darius from a distance behind him.

Reunited at last, the two Osraige brothers are uneasy and unfamiliar to one another as they talk and it's at Swaniff's mention of his deeds that his brother and friend speak of their own allegiance to the Inconnu and their desire to reclaim the tower. Summoning Damian over, the group speaks briefly of matters of trust, before departing for the evening and venturing outside of the city walls so Damian can construct a magical shelter where they can safely discuss things for the time being.

IC Dates:
RL Date: 9/19/05 - 10/17/05 4 sessions approx 4 hrs each
DM: Scionist
Region: Silverstown and Thorn Woods
Written by: Daigotsu (100xp/lvl)

PCs: Lalina, Daigotsu, W'Shemyil, Vander, Cethlyn (First session, then NPC'd).
NPCs: Dwarves, Corsair, 13? Gnolls, 6 Flinds, Malice, 2 Enemy Mages.

Exp: 75xp/lvl/16hrs (add multiplier)

Short Summery:

Finally deciding to imerse themselves in the Scion's mission and deal with the villain of Ballog known as Malice, the group set's out from Silverstown to find him and put an end to his ways. About a day out from town however, the group is ambushed in the middle of the night by the very man they'd come to stop. Enduring stinging insects, fireballs and hexes... the group manages to defeat Malice as well as the mages and gnolls he'd brought with him. While the gnolls and one of the mages had fled, Malice and his other mage had been crushed under a block of ice summoned by Corsair. Wanting to see the body of the man he had been dueling, Daigotsu works with Corsair to remove the ice, only to find the remains of the mage. Malice had vanished, however... he had left his unholy sword behind.

Long Summery (aka: Combat Details):

Returning to Silverstown had been eventful; having fended off a small army of gnolls with the help of the dwarf; Captain Beskerd who'd come to find them, the group finally had a moment to catch thier breath. It was of course, and as always; shortlived. Learning that the mage Corsair had returned to town, the group makes thier way to the prison to inquire as to his actions; both past, and future. Learnign that he'd gone away mearly to prepare for the up and comming conflict against Malice, the group; with permission from the local magistrate; adpots the mage into thier party on a temporary basis. With the group still uncertain as where to find Malice or even knowing exactly what this 'Great Owl' was that he was after; they simply decide to head out of town; making the plan up as they go. Traveling southward along the road through the Thorn Woods, the group eventually breaks off and enters the forest in order to spend a night. At the time, they decided to for-go Corsair's protections. A lucky decision on thier part.

During the watch that evening; a deer wanders into camp. Little did they know that this creature would only preclude the troubles to come in time. It was almost as if it wanted to warn the group; causing those at the watch to wake the others. Little by little, as Lalina attempted to communicate with the likely native creature; a fog rolled in. Nervous, the deer bounded away from any further attempts to come closer or communicate with it. Moments later, whizzing sounds could be heard all about them; and as the fog pretty much solidified around the group; a swarm of bees/wasps/hornets came at them from all around, stinging and causing much pain and displeasure. Unable to see thier attackers, the group stumbles about ineffectivly for a moment; then came the fireball. Lighting everything up and banishing both the fog and the insects, a blast of fire washd over the group leaving some in the party serverly injured, and Vander unconsious.

Noting at this point that they had been surrounded by gnolls and mages, much of the night fell into chaos. With a spell, Lalina had delt with many of the gnolls, the local flora comming to life and entangling them. Daigotsu had gone ahead, slipping through the web of trees and vines in order to find the men of chaos he could feel through his sword. Corsair joined in the spellcasting as both he and a second enemy mage started launching magical bolts of energy at various foes. Cethlyn moved to protect the downed Vander and W'Shemyil had all but vanished into the forest. Getting around the gnolls, Daigotsu hears a voice barking orders beyond a trio of Flinds; protecting himself from enemy strikes with his own blades, he slips past the Flinds without much hassle. Back in the clearing, spells continue to get flung about as Lalina utters a powerful prayer and Corsair vanishes into thin air. Unfortunatly, a second trio of flinds had gone around and had begun thier own assault into the camp.

Things start to heat up as Lalina and Cethlyn attempt to protect and heal the fallen mage, Corsair of course is nowhere to be found when the flinds move on his position. Beyond the entangeled Gnolls, Daigotsu and Malice face off against one another. The blademaster's sword emitting bright light in contrast to the dark aura of the villain's sword. Gaining the quick upperhand, Malice's sword slip's through Daigotsu's defenses and leaves a deep wound on the young man's shoulder... the blade's magic striking him to the core. The two trade some more ineffective strikes as the fight between Lalina and the mages draws on, magical protections eliminated and restored. With Vander once again standing, he begins to toss out spells of his own to further disrupt the enemy. W'Shemyil is still missing during all this; however... he finally makes an appearence around the same time Corsair moves to save Daigotsu's life with one of his enchantments. The once hidden elf brings with him a dagger, which he claims can slay Malice in a single strike. Sadly, W'Shemyil is knock to the ground rather swiftly by the now free gnolls, having had time at take a shot at Malice.

Things begins to draw to a close as Malice and his mages attempt to retreat; the villain calling upon his god's will toi scare away the weak minded. The gnolls decide to flee at this point as well; taking thier surviving flind leaders with them. Distracted by a well placed blow from Daigotsu, Corsair is able to stab the armored Villain with the dagger he'd picked up in the previous round. The seemingly magical blade pretty much ignores the man's armor, shredding through it like a hot knife through butter; leaving a severe gash. Finding himself in more trouble than he bargained for, Malice has only time enough to block some of Daigotsu's attempts at disrupting the escape plans of the mages. Lalina, using her magical bands; subdues the second mage. The remaining gnolls and flinds also begins a hasty retreat, their prey not going down so easily. Despite the group's best attempts; one of the mages manages to slip away under a spell of invisibility. While Lalina tends to those who are still wounded, Vander, W'Shemyil, and Cethly secure the immediate area.

Screaming defiance at the Villain of Ballog, Corsair begins to cast a spell as Daigotsu and he confront Malice. As Corsair's spell finishes; a massive block of ice is summoned out of thin air, falling and crushing both Malice, and his bound mage-companion. As the dust clears... the group finds themselves out of combat for the time being. Wanting to see the dead villain's body, Daigotsu attempts to break through the ice. Unable to do so at a decent rate on his own; Corsair aids the young man with a simple fire spell; creating much slush. While waiting for the semi-liquid matter to move; Lalina makes certain everyone is feeling much better with Celenia's healing boons.

As the remaining ice is moved aside, the group finds an interesting sight. While the bound mage was definatly dead; crushed by the ice that Corsair had summoned; all that remained of Malice was his dark unholy sword. His armor, his body... gone. While many theories are brought forth; no one is quite certain as to what had happened. Perhaps some greater force had whisked the villain away? Perhaps his soul remains within his sword? Only time would likely tell. As for the sword... the question of destroying it, or perhaps using it to set a trap both came to mind. However, with the possible threat of the gnolls still abound; all they can do for now is take them with him. Daigotsu, trusting his own sword's divine magic would protect him from possible corruption; stores the bastardsword away in the magical cloak Corsair had given him. The process takes a minute or so; and the group attempts to decide what else they might do.

Causulties: Mage, Malice? Some Gnolls and Flinds.
Treasure: Unholy/Chaotic Bastardsword
High Points: Surviving the ambush.
Low Points: Combat taking 4-5 weeks due to various problems on all ends.

Written by: Lalina (100xp/lvl)

PCs: Lalina, Daigotsu, W'Shemyil
NPCs: Corsair, Spirit

Exp: 65xp/lvl/4hrs

Short Summary:
Lalina, in search of Malice, communicates with a spirit who tells her what must be done.

Long Summary:
The group discusses Malice and what they can do next to find him. Lalina cautions Corsair that he cannot let Malice consume him, or he will be lost forever. Corsair responds that Malice must be eliminated or else he will be consumed and Lalina counters that Corsair gives Malice too much credit. Further, she tells Corsair that he doesn't have to do this alone, that she and the others will help him. Lalina, in fact, will commune with nature to find him. She figures that such a powerful villain of Ballog must disrupt the local area, and by connecting with nature, she should be able to locate him.

Lalina then asks for peace and quiet from the rest of the group as she focuses and casts the extended spell. After awhile, as the power of the spell sweeps over her, she grows quiet and seems to be communicating. Lalina senses easily where the disruption of power is -- the sword! Malice seems to be inside it, as if it was his phylactery or refuge. Lalina then feels a spirit of creation reaching out to her, as if trying to communicate with her. She tries to make herself receptive to such and manages to do so.

Lalina learns that the spirit tried to communicate to W'Shemyil, giving him a holy blade of creation to use to destroy Malice. However, Malice continues to exist in his sword; it is an unholy sword forged by hands not of this plane and Malice is slowly gathering strength inside it. The spirit informs Lalina that she must bring the sword to a place of pure creation, where Malice and his evil can be undone. The spirit indicates, answering Lalina's question, that there is anyway to limit the gathering of Malice's strength and that many dangers might come in the way of the group, as it is the wild woods. The spirit provides Lalina with the location of a glen of creation and how to get there. Lalina uses her communion with nature to form a mental picture of the place.

The spell completes and Lalina nearly crumbles to the floor as the power sustaining her and the trance drains out of her. The rest of the group quickly supports her, wondering what is going to happen. Lalina says she is fine and tells the group to begin to travel south, and keep the sword under wraps. Lalina explains that the sword is Malice; his spirit persisted and is stored in the sword. The group discusses their battle with Malice and the current predicament. Daigotsu then reveals a dream in which he was fighting Malice; Lalina indicates that the dream was probably more real than Daigotsu realizes. It's possible Malice was trying to take over Daigotsu and their battle was a battle for control. Daigotsu indicates that Malice was unable to harm him in the dream, and indicates his Mahacto-blessed sword protects him from the chaos of the Great Destroyer. The group then agrees that Daigotsu might be the best keeper of the sword, then, as his current power protects him from it. Nevertheless, the group is worried about the growing evil among them and decides they need to travel and end this -- quickly.

Causulties: None

Written by: Lalina (100xp/lvl)

PCs: Lalina, W'Shemyil, Vandar. Daigotsu
NPCs: Corsair

Exp: 85xp/lvl/28hrs

Short Summary:
The group continues to discuss what to do as they travel towards the source of the glen; on the way, they are attacked by an ankheg, which leads into an exploration of the creature's cavern complex; then fleeing at the force of many insects.

Long Summary:
Packing up and preparing to move out the group has unanswered questions looming over their heads. Daigotsu ponders the power of the malevolence in the sword he carries. Will it infect him in some way? Will his god continue to protect him from the evil within the blade? Lalina is all but consumed with the knowledge she has gained from her commune with the spirit. Where is this place of creation it spoke of? How will they destroy the sword once there? Will destroying the sword destroy Malice or just expel him from it? W'Shemyil's thoughts drift to the information he gained from the spirit and where it deviates from what Lalina has learned. He is no longer sure of the intentions or the validity of the thing he spoke with. Was it the same creature? Could it somehow be a ruse by the enemy? Vandar, strangely has been introspective and quiet during the time since his revival. Perhaps his thoughts are on his skills and how to improve them?

Lalina and Corsair engage in a lively and close conversation, in which they discuss the events of late as well as some of their history and how they came to be as they are now. Lalina tells him the story of the Sythian mage and her as a girl in Coopersville Forge. Corsair tells her his path of power and how he lost sight of the right path. Corsair also reveals he has a sister named Amber that was taken by the Syth and Lalina agrees to help him when this is all done and over.

The group then continues its route towards the glen, heading south until they eventually find a stream. The group then finally discovers a stream -- they assume it's the river that the spirit spoke of. They notice that many creatures seem to be drinking from it, and seem to be particularly healthy. The area reminds Lalina of her encounter with the spirit, and the group moves to take a drink from the stream. They note its particular sweetness and purity and fill their wineskins and canteens with it. The sword, for its part, seems to dislike the area. Daigotsu notes that it particularly dislikes the water and seems to grow warm at the touch of it. They figure they must be getting closer to the glen and wonder where it could be. They decide to follow the sweet-tasting stream.

They then following a stream, hoping it is, or leads to, the river that the spirit indicated. They follow along it for quite awhile, indeed, they think they might have gone too far or in the wrong direction. As they continue, however, they come across a very strange site. Some trees have been felled, there is blood and bones on the ground. The bones appear to be from a deer, and the group notices that the bones have been melted a bit by acid. It is a most strange sight and the group is concerned about what this might be foretelling.

The group is concerning and investigates a little, before Lalina and W'Shemyil suddenly feel the earth moving beneath them! Despite the grumbling, neither loses their balance. They then back up to the rest of the group, just as a huge creature emerges from the ground! W'Shemyil barely manages to get out of the quicksand like ground as the creature tries to bite him and drag him underneath. Missing its prey, the creature, identified as an ankheg, then spits a stream of acid, but that misses the agile elf as well. The group then attacks the ankheg and a battle ensues. Corsair unleashes a magical barrage on the creature as the others engage it in melee. Lalina, however, is the only one able to land a blow against the critter, which continues to try and eat W'Shemyil (elves are tasty, apparently).

Eventually, bloodied and beaten, the creature retreats back into the ground. The group notices that there was two holes from a previous battle someone must've had with ankhegs, and wonders if there might be another. They climb up on the felled trees for safety as they try to decide what to do next. Some want to cross the stream -- figuring the ankhegs won't burrow underneath it for fear of flooding everything -- and others think maybe they should go down into the cavern left by the creature and finish any ankhegs once and for all. As they are discussing what to do, Daigotsu falls into the place and the decision is made. Lalina quickly follows him, wanting to make sure he is alright and such. The rest of the group sends down a rope, and Daigotsu and Lalina move in, with the rope there to have the group pull them up and out if need be.

The tunnel/cavern inside seems sturdy and in no danger of collapse as the two move forward. Lalina then casts a sanctuary spell protecting both her and Daigotsu. As they move forward, they come to a chamber of sorts with five tunnels extending from it. The one in the center has blood and slime on the floor and extending from it. Daigotsu and Lalina assume that's the one the creature went through. In two other tunnels, they notice a pair of figures and figure there are at least two more ankhegs in the tunnels. However, Lalina's spell protects the two and the ankhegs watch them, but leave them alone. The two then begin to move down one of the tunnels, when they suddenly notice a lot of large brown spots that seem to be moving -- then they realize they ARE moving! It's a swarm of terrible insects! Lalina quickly casts a spell and the insects stop swarming about ten feet from Daigotsu and Lalina -- her magic is repelling them. The two then decide to run away, deciding there is nothing worth staying down here for and they should continue on their journey. The two do a brief scan and then run away and out of the tunnel complex.

Meanwhile, the group above continues to discuss what to do and their dismay and worry at Daigotsu and Lalina being below in the cavern. Corsair is concerned about Lalina's safety and doesn't think this is a good idea, but W'Shemyil tries to reassure him that the woman has proved resourceful in the past. Vandar, meanwhile, begins to search around the place and understands that a battle took place here. He then finds some treasure hidden in the ground a bit -- a ring, cloak and bracers that radiate magic.

The group then comes back together and shares what they've learned. Concerned about the swarm of large insects, or the ankhegs, the group crosses the stream and continues on their journey. The group is excited about the magical items Vandar managed to find. Corsair said that he can identify their properties but he'll need some peace, quiet and a lot of time. The group decides to put them away for now and have Corsair identify them later.

Causulties: One anhkeg
Treasure: Magical bracers, ring and cloak
High Points: Sweet-tasting water!
Low Points: Lalina hitting the ankheg the most (bad rolls by all the other PCs)

Written by: Lalina (100xp/lvl)

PCs: Lalina, W'Shemyil, Vandar. Daigotsu
NPCs: Corsair

Exp: 55xp/lvl/4 hrs

Short Summary:
The group continues on their journey and finds the glen they seek!

Long Summary:
As the group travels, Corsair and Vandar discuss the secrets of the arcane. Corsair shares some of his knowledge with the younger and less-experienced Vandar who is very appreciative. The group also discusses their upcoming battle and what spells and precautions they should undertake for it. The group sends W'Shemyil to scout ahead of them.

As the group continues, Daigotsu notes that the sword does not like where they are. Lalina notes that she is beginning to get the same sense as when she communicated with the spirit. They must be getting close! The group then begins to worry about W'Shemyi, whom they can neither see nor hear. They begun to rush a little, hoping that the elf is not in trouble.

Eventually, the group comes across a bundle of cloth with a hastily written and difficult to read message on it. It's clearly from W'Shemyil and says that there is an invisibility barrier ahead of the group. The group stops and looks around and then noticed the elf in the distance, though he and his items appear to be brighter. The trees also begin to thin out around the place W'Shemyil is in.

The group finds this very strange and begins to look around wondering. They recognize that there is some sort of silence spell blocking communication between them and the elf. W'Shemyil motions for the group to back up and throws a piece of soap. As W'Shemyil throws the soap the rest of the group all see that it is bright, like light is showing from inside of it. At a certain point, (just where the open space meets the trees) it seems to pause before continuing towards the group. After the pause the soap is no longer bright as if it had a light within.

Corsair theorizes to the group that he believes this place of creation is some sort of magic-dead zone. The group wonders if it's just arcane magic, or all forms of magic. They also wonder if it'll render their magical items inert permanently or not, and how they could get around it. Afterall, it's possible a fight might occur and the group would want its magical protections, Lalina notes. Lalina thinks they should try to find the limits of the dead-magic area. In any regard, they feel someone needs to go and talk with W'Shemyil, and also test what happens. Vandar volunteers, removes any arcane paraphernalia, and then heads towards the elf. He seems to pause at the same place as the soap did and they he is next to W'Shemyil, and a light seems to be glowing from within him, just like with W'Shemyil and the soap.

Vandar meets up with W'Shemyil and the two begin to talk. W'Shemyil informs Vandar that they are in some sort of magical area, and shows Vandar how he can cross vast distances seemingly very quickly. Vandar then tries to cast a spell, to test Corsair's theory. Instead of turning invisible, Vandar turns translucent! Vandar decides that since he and W'Shemyil made it across safely, it must be safe for the others. He motions the others to come along, and one by one, they all come to along, reaching Vandar and W'Shemyil. Everyone in the group feels the spark of creation inside of them, and glows strangely.

The sword begins to vibrate steadily like when a tuning fork is struck but it does not slow down. As it vibrates it gives off much more heat and smoke begins to come from Daig's pack. As if this were not enough the sword seems to be emanating a high pitch sound. The group decides this must be the place they need to be and try to find the center of the glen. Alleviating some of the strain on the straps of Daigotsu's pack, the smoke subsides but the area where it now rests begins to heat rapidly.

The group moves rapidly towards the center of the glen, finding an altar of sorts. There are five simple stone slabs laid one atop the other. As you inspect them closer you realize these slabs are pure white, they are whiter than even the purest snow. The group wonders if they should move anything and decide not to; they decide they need to put the sword down atop the altar. Daigotsu takes the sword in hand and seems visibly shaken and blood appears to be coming from his hand holding the sword. He places the sword on the slabs and.....

RL Date: 1-16-06

Region: Thorn Woods
Written by: W’Shemyil aka Sneaky Pete (100xp/lvl)

PCs: Lalina, Daigotsu, W'Shemyil, and Vander
NPCs: Corsair and Malice (incorporeal form anyway)

Exp: 65xp/lvl/4hrs Bonus Plot completion XP 2,500/lvl

Summary: The group destroys Malice’s sword (which contains his soul) but unwittingly makes him more powerful. After the destruction of the sword, the group is transported to the fey world. Lalina finds out the groups new location is in southwestern Khardfee. After casting a spell, Lalina is able to find a doorway back into the natural world…

Long Version:

As Daig lays the sword on the stone slab it begins to emit a high-pitched noise similar to the feedback on a pa system. The sword then begins to levitate and glow white-hot. The sword begins to expand and vibrate as the light from the sword becomes too much for the party to bear so they shield their eyes. Suddenly, there is an eruption of light and a loud crack of thunder. The force of the eruption causes all of the party members except W’Shemyil to be blown off their feet. When the party members gather themselves, they see a figure standing where the sword had once been. The figure doesn’t have distinguishable features but appears like a shadow with glowing green eyes and fire red pupils. At the sight of the figure, a feeling of ill washes over all the party. W’Shemyil is gripped by a horrible fear and is unable to move but the other members are not affected. Seeing W’Shem’s immobile state, Lalina quickly casts a spell on him to remove his fear.

The shadowy figure, which the group realizes is Malice, then speaks,”You have destroyed my body and my place of refuge. But in doing so you will suffer a great loss." Lalina hastily casts a protection spell on the group. Lalina then defiantly rebuffs Malice and walks up to him ready to attack with her staff. The shadowy figure once known as Malice then taunts her by saying that he cannot be harmed by her since he is no longer tied to this existence and has become more powerful then she can imagine. Daig bravely follows behind Lalina ready to support her action. Lalina takes a swing at the figure with her staff and misses. It hisses at her that she can’t hurt it and it can’t hurt her. Lalina stubbornly takes another swing at the figure and does no harm to it. This time the shade says it must be going to wreck havoc in other planes then dissolves into nothingness.

After the figure vanishes, the group notices that the spark of creation seems to be gone and the trees that surrounded the glen are now gone. They now stand in a flat plane. As the others discuss their new circumstances and the devastation that has occurred to the glen, W’Shem decides to investigate the new area. He walks around and finds that the movement effects of the glen are now gone. Furthermore, this place is totally different then the glen they were once in…they are in a new land.

W’Shem relates this news to the others. They also see that this is a new land; however, none of them can recognize their location now: an arid grassland. Corsair worries that they might have triggered something back at the glen. Lalina ponders the situation then deduces that they have traveled into the fey world and that the glen was a node into that world. Corsair agrees and then casts a simple spell to see if its effects are changed. The intensity of the spell is increased; thus, verifying that the group is in the fey world. The group then decides to try and find a doorway out of the fey world. Lalina casts a spell that allows her to create a map of the fey world. After looking down at her hand at the map only she can see, she says that the group is in southwestern Khardfee and the nearest settlement is Khalmund to their south. She presents the group with two options: either take the first doorway out of the world or try to find the doorway that she is familiar with near Magamville. Lalina then casts another spell and asks what will happen if they go through the first doorway they see. Seemingly pleased with the result, she announces that they will go through the first doorway they find. She then proclaims that Celenia and the spirits have told her that there will be need of them in Khalmund.

After searching for several minutes, Lalina is able to locate a doorway out of the fey world. She successfully passes through the gate and the others follow her into the natural world…
