PC's present: Eidell, Sam, Volonar, Fungur, Ruul
NPC's: Joel, Emmie, Leandra, Hoot the Owl, Piper, Kobolds,

Location: Valethud Forest, Edilar

Short Version of Events:

The party meets Leandra in Valethud Forest, who agrees to lead them to the dark elves in exchange for their help.

Longer Version of Events:

Following Hoot further into Valethud Forest, we were lead to a small clearing with the forest. Greeting us there was the owner of the dwelling, an elf-maid who introduced herself as Leandra. Looking at some of my companions, it is clear that they have never seen the beauty that is an elf-maid. They showed their base human nature, huffing and panting around her like some sort of wild animal. After introductions, and a brief discussion as to why we were in the forest, Leandra, was polite enough to ignore their human baseness, and invite us to camp in her glade for the evening.

Setting up our camp for the evening, we had our ultimate revenge on the pigs that attacked us earlier, and had a delicious dinner of pork. The next morning, we were all feeling much refreshed and Leandra came over once more to continue to the discussion from the previous evening. Accepting some roasted pork, Leandra called out a small elven kitten that had been hiding in the trees near us. The poor creature had an absus on it’s rear leg, and was limping quite badly.

After all enquired about the injury to the kitten, Leandra advised that she was missing the final ingredient for her poultice to heal the kitten. After her comments, the previous evening, where she seemed to have some knowledge of the dark elves we were hunting, I sensed a chance to get Leandra willing to provide us what information she knew about the elfs, and offered our assistance in searching for the missing ingredient for the poultice. Leandra quickly agreed, she would lead us to the dark elves home if we could go and retrieve some rootfire for her from a old human women who also lived within the forest.

Although Eidell was loath to make this agreement, believing that Leandra should be willing to help us purely out of the goodness of her heart, and the fact that we would be freeing Emmie’s father. Fortunately, I was able to make him see reason, and the party agreed that we would get the rootfire for Leandra. I mean, after all, his whole argument was flawed… as if the life one human could be measured against that of an elven cat. Really, if it came down to, there’s always plenty of humans around, and they mostly look the same, so I’m sure one of them could take Emmie in if need be.

Leaving the glade, we followed Hoot once more and he led us through the forest to the home of Piper, the old human woman who apparently possessed some rootfire. Whilst I held back, sensing that not all was quite right, the rest of the party blundered straight up towards the cottage and started to bargain with Piper. Eidell once again tried to use Emmie’s missing father to coerce Piper into giving us some rootfire. However, she was not so willing to be parted with her rare plant, and told us that if we wanted the plant, we would have to earn it.

After a brief discussion, it was begrudgingly agreed that we would guard her well for the evening against any ‘vermin’ that attempted to drink from it during the evening. Although I was concerned about just what a person such as Piper would consider to be ‘vermin’, we set up camp around the well for the evening and prepared to defend it.

During the evening, a group of about 20 kobolds approached through the trees towards the well carrying buckets. Well, if this is the sort of vermin that have been infesting Piper’s well, then personally I’m surprised that she wanted someone to do something about them. Obviously not recognising what they were, Eidell attempted to communicate with them, and they responded by attacking him.

Well, that tore it. We started to defend ourselves and the well, and was quite successful at it, if I do say so myself. Just as the fight started, a figure that we hadn’t seen since Khardfee appeared behind the kobolds, and joined us in our struggles. The fight itself came to it’s logical conclusion, and before too long most of the kobolds were down, either asleep or killed, and the remaining handful lost their fighting spirit and fled the fight.

Following after the battle, whilst Joel was welcoming Ruul back and discovering how he had managed to locate us in Edilar, I went around and finished off the sleeping kobolds. Both Sam and Eidell were unhappy with me for doing so, believing that they should have been set free. However, perhaps if they knew these foul creatures like I did, then they would not be so quick to allow them to live.
