I've noticed 2 of the recent posts did not include valid votes that the former TC members did cast for these proposals...

especially the one about the 'minimum discussion period'

Votes were cast before the members stepped down, and I do not understand why these votes have been ignored because they were valid.

Please explain this to me, Nyr.

Original proposal did not pass, there were too many abstaining votes.  So, there was a call to rewrite the proposal.   It was rewritten, and then was unanimously approved by the remaining TC when the revote took place.

Apparently, the part of the original proposal that was objected to was the requirement for a minimum two week discussion period.  Once we removed that as a requirement and dropped that down to 1 week, things seemed much happier.  However, in compromise, we setup the system so that the discussion time can be extended, depending on the topic itself.  So that topics that are being debated heavily, can be extended as long as the topic is progressing.  If it's stuck at a stalemate, it'll be resolved at that point.

As for the original version and the original votes, I wasn't aware that it needed to be moved to the TC council decisions board.  Since I thought the board was intended for things that are currently in use. Though, it's possible in the future that a thread for "TC Tabled Projects" might appear.

so why did that rewrite not come back to public perusal??

as far as I know it was less than five days since we resigned, and suddenly the new proposal was rewritten and revoted on

furthermore in cases of abstainations, the abstains count the same as 'no' votes

so the proposals would have 'failed' not 'been unable to be voted on'...

there WAS a quorum, and the proposals could not garnish enough backing to 'pass' hence they failed.

As long as I have been involved, which is the total tiem of the tC except the first , amending or rewording and such which changes little depending ont he discussion has always beenallowed during vote or voted on immediately after the original had failed.

This is so that a thing doen'st undergo weeks upon weeks of discussion on the matter of changing a few words inorder to make it acceptable. This is what the tC is suppsoed to do once public discussoin is finished. They are then suppsoed to take into account everything the public had said and write the actual proposal to be what they believe is watned by the majority of the Thardferr community.

Aso, we had a discussion onthis and it was explained to me. an abstain is not a no vote only a no is a no vote. An abstain is saying I neitther am for or against this proposal and agree to go with the majority.

Abstaining holds no negative connitation towards the topic of vote at all and so cannot pass of fail a proposal. It is not counted asa no vote unless there is more no than yes votes. and visa versa.

So what exactly was the tally... with the abstains?

was it 3 yes, 4 no, and 3 abstains? if so it should have failed.

Sadly I disagree...

Abstain's count towards the quorum, and while would not help nor hurt a proposal from passing, if there were more no's than yes votes it should stand as a valid vote and been rejected...  if it was the other way, the proposal should have been passed as it was voted for.

Voting Prior to Rewrite and 3 TC members leaving:

Liriel Aye
Scionist Aye
Lalina Abstain
Suleidan Nay - As written

Feff - Abstain
Gralbor - Didn't Vote
Kluu - Didn't Vote

20% for, 10% against, 2 Abstaining, 2 Didn't Vote

Voting After Rewrite:
Unanimous Aye 80%

Next question?

*editted for that other abstaination. Which is always a good idea, according to the health teacher*  :)

Hmm, if what you posted on the vote is true, and I have no doubt it is since anyone can check,

You forgot to count Feffs abstain which counts as 20% abstain.

This then means that there was a quorum of 60% and the abstains would go with the Aye since there was more of them.  It was 50% to pass.

Still this ties and ties are held till amended and proposed again or tabled till a new vote is called, normally. In this case, a slight change was made mostly to clairfy time minimums and I called to vote on it.  All current members voted to pass it as clairifed.

It really depends on the type of organization that does the voting.  Some organizations, like mine and my girlfriend's fraternities, as long as there is a quorum attending, whether voting aye, nay, or abstain, the motion passes and fails based on the voting, so even if there are 11 people voting, six abstain, three vote for a motion, two against, then the motion still passes due to the voting.  This would be because eleven people actually cast a vote, even if it was an abstain.

Now there was a discussion on the private board, and the consensus seemed to be that the above was true for TC votes.

Actually Feff voted aye as well.  The vote was unanimous from all the regular members of the TC.
