DoE Session 21c: "True Allegiances"

Written By: Nyrhtlyk the Dark
PCDM: Gibreel
Group: Daggers of Edilar
IC Date: 4-4-734
RL Date: 9-26-04
PC's Present: Damian, Gallorn
NPC's Present: None

Location:
Sorrowtown, Khardfee

Short Version:
Damian and Gallorn speak at length with Damian working to make Gallorn more of an ally to the BlackDaggers.

Long Version:
With Hurley, Thragnar, and Xavier departing to see what can be done about the Mourning Wolves, Damian and Gallorn linger behind to discuss the map of the Inconnu tower brought to him by Gallorn. Voicing his suspicions indirectly about how Gallorn managed to retrieve something that would be hidden so secretly by the Inconnu, he manages to get Gallorn to admit to his former affiliations with the Inconnu. However, with that bit of information out in the open, it paves the way for a new round of questions as Damian seeks to test his own knowledge of the situation once again, against new facts and details that he can illicit from Gallorn.

Considering their options and the desire to scout out the Inconnu tower, they consider once again the fey node and the need for a physical scout to show them the path to the tower. Invariably, the topic of Sythian defenses, including their goggles comes to the front as well, as they discuss ways around the goggles as needed for scouting the tower. There is some disagreement about how many should go, Gallorn obviously thinking that Thragnar and Xavier will serve little role in something so delicate, but Damian is quick to point out that the decision for that, is Damian's alone.

Still, the debate rages as to their final goals. To assault the Inconnu, or just to scout it? Whilst Damian is very much pushing for the prospect of scouting, he's not yet given up on the hope of finding an exploit that the Sythians neglected, whilst Gallorn is more than concerned about the situation and favors avoiding any conflict at all at this point. In reassurance, the two briefly discuss gathering more allies and using them to their advantage to wage a full assault upon the Inconnu tower, but with a lack of information any plans stall and come back around to the required need to scout and see what defenses are truly in place around the tower.

As the conversation wanes, Damian turns to pay more attention to Gallorn's skills. Finding the younger mage's skills to be far from suitable to be of much assistance, Damian pulls out his own pages of spells and some equipment as he helps Gallorn bolster his meager selection by offering equal amounts of defensive and offensive magics that might be of some use. Some prove to be unique as Damian offers his own private research, but in exchange, Damian quietly peruses the whole of Gallorn's spellbook, examining the magics therein and beginning to consider the possibilities of tandem casting that might be accomplished.

As the time progresses, they get further along and Gallorn learns a great deal from the offered spells, most with Damian's assistance, though there are a few that he can not yet master. As the trading of spells declines and Damian feels he's gained a larger part of the man's trust, the map appears again and Damian quietly intones. "Now tell me more about this room here." With such in place, they continue their discussion.

DoE Session 22: "Sembralite Revival"

Written By: Nyrhtlyk the Dark
PCDM: Gibreel
Group: Daggers of Edilar
IC Date: 4-4-734 to 4-5-734
RL Date: 10-12-04
PC's Present: Damian, Gallorn, Thragnar, Xavier
NPC's Present: Hurley

Location:
Sorrowtown, Khardfee

Short Version:
After being turned away the previous day, everyone except Damian heads back to forge some relationships with the remaining Mourning Wolves, only to meet a surprising figure.

Long Version:
Damian and Gallorn speak for several hours, before the rest of the group shows up, explaining that they were asked to return upon the morrow. With nothing else pressing for the night, the group beds down, placing a single member on a rotating watch whilst lasts the night.

4/5/734

With the advent of morning, Damian and Gallorn begin to renew their spells whilst Thragnar bothers the pair with comments and breakfast. As they speak briefly upon nonsensical topics, they eventually break up as Gallorn and Thragnar head towards the Mourning Wolves, whilst Damian lingers to make sure Xavier gets sent in the right direction before going shopping for some diamonds in the dwarven city.

When Gallorn & Thragnar arrive, there is a marked difference in the appearance of the Mourning Wolves today. For many, their uniforms have been replaced with emblems indicating their allegiance to Khardfee and many new figures stalk the walkways guarding the Mourning Wolves tower, nearly all of them dwarven. Still, undetered by this, Gallorn and Thragnar are invited inside the tower where Thragnar launches into his preaching, speaking to the masses, whilst Gallorn finds the leader of the Mourning Wolves to inquire about these recent changes.

As Gallorn makes progress finding that Khardfee considers this location too important to keep manned by so few men, Thragnar finds a willing challenger in the gathering throng of off-duty soldiers. In a brief display of combat, the two come out unscathed but celebrating their combat and the pleasure that it brings from Sembral. Through it all, Thragnar speaks loudly and proudly of his affiliations, speaking of Sembralite dogma of struggle, the purest means of worshipping Sembral. However, as Vinny arrives, the preaching takes another turn as Thragnar sees an opportunity to enhance his message by putting Vinny up for battle. As Thragnar calls for a challenger, or perhaps two to battle the new arrival. Vinny himself asks for three, four, five, or however many want to try. There seems to be some eagerness from the crowd, but instead it falls to hushed silence as a lone elf steps out to take on Vinny.

The Mourning Wolves seem amazed, whilst Thragnar and Vinny have no clue who this new opponent is, whilst Gallorn too has to pick up his jaw as he watches the fight that is about to take place, as Mephiston Nightwind, Leader of the Inconnu steps forward to challenge Vincent Farthel, also known as Xavier or Vinny. The two clash furiously, the crowd rivetted by the combat as the skills of these two titans is truly an astonishing thing to see. However, Gallorn is more concerned with the crowd than the combat, finding an ally in Thragnar to help watch the crowd, the dwarf is more interested in taking advantage of this situation to continue to preach his gospel to those who are watching the events.

Taking it upon himself, Gallorn heads in their direction but loses them in the crowd, even as he can hear Thragnar yelling behind him, trying to coax those tired of battle into higher spirits. Beyond that, a battle wages in which the victor is uncertain. For all his skill and speed as an elf, Mephiston is evenly matched against the human warrior whose devoted his life to battle. Even as it seems Mephiston gains a slight upper hand, Vinny invokes some magic about him and jumps forward, slamming his blade into Mephiston's magically protected body and sending the elf back to a crouch from the force of the blow. Undaunted they clash again, only to have similar results as the battle is finally called by the elven leader of the Inconnu.

As they finish, Thragnar remains behind to distribute holy symbols to the crowd. Whilst Xavier and Gallorn follow Mephiston Nightwind into a more private setting to speak. Speaking briefly, Gallorn seems unwilling to talk overly about Damian, other than to provide the name of the one organizing the others to come to Khardfee to seek out the Inconnu. With little to go on, Mephiston invites Gallorn back this evening with his companions so that they may talk in length about things and perhaps sort out some questions on both sides.

DoE Session 23: "Helping the Inconnu"

Written By: Nyrhtlyk the Dark
PCDM: Gibreel
Group: Daggers of Edilar
IC Date: 4-5-734
RL Date: 10-19-04
PC's Present: Damian, Gallorn, Thragnar, Vinny
NPC's Present: None

Location:
Sorrowtown, Khardfee

Short Version:
Following the conclusion of their meeting with Mephiston, the BlackDaggers split up in town to gather additional information about the Inconnu.

Long Version:
Forced to abandon their initial meeting with Mephiston due to a scrying attempt by unknown parties, the group splits for a time. Thragnar and Vinny head back to secure the BlackDagger's room at the Inn, whilst Damian and Gallorn linger to finish speaking to Mephiston. The conversation with Mephiston is brief, the guildmaster apparently worried about something and Damian is soon released to return to the foyer and wait. Gallorn however, lingers behind gathering a bit more information from the guildmaster before he rejoins Damian and they make their own way back to the Inn on foot.

Once back at the Inn, they are briefly stopped by Thragnar at the door before they are allowed into the room. There, the group briefly discusses events at the Inconnu tower and listen curiously as Thragnar relates a tale of an ancient battle, whose memory seemingly popped into his head from nowhere. Gallorn, being suspicious of the activity announced his suspicions to Damian in goblin and elven both, trying to hide his conversation from the two other occupants of the room. Once reassured by Damian there was little to worry about and the group considered the dwarf's tale of some subterranean entrance to an ancient battle site against the Sythians that sounded suspiciously like the Inconnu tower.

However, needing more information, they leave Thragnar to see if he can't find more on the tower in the morning, whilst they settle upon their own affairs. Posting a watch against intrusion and taking precautions against an attack in their room, most bed down for the night with Gallorn taking the first watch. Whilst Gallorn watches, Damian quickly sends a pair of dream messages to Aremius Collerain and then Jan'doire, leader of the Inconnu Mourning Wolves patrol that Mephiston had mentioned. Finished, he falls into his own slumber, before being awakened by Gallorn at the end of Gallorn's watch. Using his magic a third time, Damian sent Gallorn into a deep sleep to deliver his own message to Gibreel Deeowen about events, before drifting off to sleep.

The night passes peacefully, however, the next morning invites a flurry of activity as the group splits to accomplish various tasks. Gallorn and Thragnar are sent to locate any possible caches of magical scrolls, items, and the like for resources. Whilst Damian and Vinny seek out a silversmith, to allow for the use of a restrictive magical spell to see if they can't personally locate the Mourning Wolves patrol that is missing.

DoE Session 24: "Retrieving the Patrol"

Written By: Nyrhtlyk the Dark
PCDM: Gibreel
Group: Daggers of Edilar
IC Date: 4-6-734
RL Date: 10-26-04
PC's Present: Damian, Jan'doire, Thragnar, Xavier
NPC's Present: None

Location:
Sorrowtown, Khardfee

Short Version:
Finding the wayward Inconnu Patrol, Damian and Xavier retrieve it themselves without waiting for the others.

Long Version:
Leaving the silversmith's shop, Damian and Xavier return to the Inn to wait for the others. However, as time passes, the two grow frustrated over the continued absence of Gallorn and Thragnar. Finally, unwilling to wait any longer, Damian decides to go after the patrol with just himself and Xavier. Xavier reluctantly agreeing to go along with Damian on the search.

Arriving safely in a fog filled expanse, there is little noise and the air almost feels more filled with tension that fog. Still, with few options to them, Damian lets Xavier begin to track the missing patrol as one would perhaps game, however the process is far from precise. Together, the two make their way through the fog slowly, making headway slowly as the tracks prove more difficult to follow than those of wild game. Still, by the time the second bell has passed on their search, they close with their quarry and advance into a position held by the Inconnu patrol, as the patrol prepares to do battle.

Seemingly undaunted by the number of arrows and men waiting to kill him, Damian catches the attention of the leader of the band, thanks to a magic he had cast the night prior to inform the man of his intention to seek them out. Finding little time to argue, but enough to confirm his intentions, Damian convinces the sergeant to follow his orders and soon, the whole of the patrol and Xavier are gathered around Damian. With careful precision, he has them follow his orders as he reduces each of them to a fifth of their previous size. Then, invoking another spell to carry them, he takes them all back to Sorrowtown within short order.

As they arrive, he quickly undoes the bindings that keep them small and lets the majority of the patrol head downstairs to the bar with Xavier so they can enjoy a well earned repast. However, keeping their leader with him, Damian quietly probes the man for information as Thragnar moves out of the shadows of the room. Speaking quickly, there is little information exchanged as Jan'doire doesn't fully trust the man, but Damian establishes a bit of goodwill, before sending the man on his way.
