This is a repeat of what is posted on the Group finding for elves. If you have read that thread you need not read this. If you have not, I recommend you read it now, to get some insight on elves and the recent past dealing with them here in Thardferr.
Thank you.

In Thardferr you know that elves are not highly liked if you have read the site. But there is more that has happened to the elves since the site was opened for play. The elves of Thardferr are not like elves of any other worlds and too many have not taken the time to read what there is about the Thardferr elves out there. Also there is a large amount of information that has never been added to the main site.

About a year ago, Thardferr time, the Speaker of the Elves, Eldo, was assassinated. This caused the elves to ask that all elves return to Edilar and after a month was given for elves to travel, the borders were closed.
Any elves inside were not allowed to leave and any stuck outside were not allowed to enter and were named outlaw.

Soon after the much beloved and just king Karjah Barden took ill and died. It was believed by some that he may have been assassinated as well. His kinsman Morlan Barden was named king in his place and he made the Norben Brotherhood outlaw and exiled them from Norben Island, renaming the island Lunar Island.

Further hostility came in the mistreatment of the Norben Brothers who had tried to unite the humans and elves in peace. These were seiged in thier own Lunar tree guild hall and finaly actual fighting occurred and elves killed elves in open war.

Morlan's actions even lost him his following amoungst the elf firsters known as the Dark Wood. The Dark Wood turned against him and tried to leave rather than fight against their fellow elves. Morlan started bringing in mercenaries to hold the elves within Edilar. He brought in hobgoblin, orcs, ogres, even giants that began to make Edilar a police state.

Internal rebels made up of norbens and dark wood harrassed and faught these mercenaries but they were not strong enough or organized well enough to beat down the outsiders as well as those elves that stayed loyal to Morlan.
Finally, all of Edilar was made into a police state with border patrols keeping everyone out and trying to also keep all elves in.

The fleeing elves of Norben Island first went to Yorktown Waters, then to Magmaville but they were stopped and either imprisoned or killed.
Many fled into the Deep Wood and ended up in Navelorn in the far south and east of the forest. The fortified plateau was able to keep out the forces of Morlan but they were under siege and couldn't get to any other cities to aid the other suffering elves.

The elves began to hide in the forests and became hunted by the evil mercenary forces. All of Edilar was looted, pillaged and most all elves who had tried only to survive and did not flee were killed.

Finaly a force came and aided the elves in fighting the evil forces and destroyed them at great cost to themselves. The surprising forces came from underground in the dead of night with great numbers and did strategic hits on Morlan's forces In the final days of battle, where the sun itself was blotted out for a whole day, they were successful in freeing the island. But by now there was very little to free. The Lunar trees were all but dead and losing health daily.

As you can see the elves are decimated, needing to rebuild but first must heal their lands. The carnage of battle still rots in the open air at the sites of recent battles. Edilar needs all of its people to survive. If you are playing an elf in Thardferr at this time it is crucial you have a reason to not be in Edilar. Only those who are criminals, cowards, apathetic or somehow were trapped somewhere for a year would not be in Edilar, unless they had a very good reason. Elven understanding comes from a shared compassion. As one with each other we are a great Nation no matter where we may find ourselves. To turn against this bond is to no longer be elven. All elves are born within the traditional area known as Edilar, no elf has ever been able to conceive and come to term out side these areas. There is a bond with the land which is linked to the Lunar trees. With these now gone no one knows what may be come of the elven race. The high elves are what linked the elves to the ancient race from which the elves came, the Sidhe. Now that they are gone the elves have no link to that fey magic. Thus those now born of elves may truly be mortal and to become more and more human, like the race they had heloped to create so long ago.
That is now gone and with it so will the elves be gone unless we all attempt to do what we can to save them. Edilar is not just a place, the elven nation not just some political bond of a like people. Edilar is all of us, our life, our exsistance. If it truely passes then so shall the elf on Kyranath.

It has now been a number of months since this final War of Liberation happened. All of Thardferr has had tome to hear of what occurred. Manyhave returned to help in the rebuilding and ambassadors of Edilar have been sent to Coopersville Forge and Torin to speak of Edilar and the future of the confederation.

Before playing an elf, decide why you are either forced to or chose to abandon your race at its greatest time of need.

Other changes to the elves in the recent past and since the war is a greater unification of the elves that had been on two side at the beginning of the war.

The Norben Brotherhood and the Dark Wood are no longer, but they have joined together to help in bringing peace to Edilar and rebuild what they can. Through the Scionists of Edilar, Those that champion what it means to be an elf and have pride in their race and heritage, both of these once opposing groups are working together to create a new kingdom and link to Thardferr that will benefit not only elves but all races.

The war left Norben island without a base to survive. The destruction of the Lunar trees, caused much of the now empty root paths of the great trees to fill with water. The island itself broke apart and sank into the Blood Lake. Only the northern ridge (what was once the highest part of the island that fomed cliffs dotted with caves) remains above water. It is mainly a sandy shoal, the north side cliffs with some still present caves and some runty malnurished plantlife. There is no edible plant life or animals now living on this ridge.

What had survived of Norben Island was there long enough for elves to attempt to save it, some of it was cleansed of the mark of death that had been left on it, but it was to no avail. There was left no loot or plunder by those that fled it. The treasures were either stolen and carried to all parts of Thardferr by the Horde Landers and mercenaries that had occupied it, it sank forever unretrievable under the murky depths of Blood Lake or it was salvaged before the island was lost to the watery depths.

In the wake of this disaster, the remaining High Elves, all but two have weakened and died, said, "All of Edilar should embrace humanity."

Becasue of this the borders of Edilar were opened for any that would come and setle in Edilar as long as they treated the land and all others living there with respect. Some lands, mostly in the north, were lost to the elves and claimed by human, dwarven and orcs as the elves retreated farther back into the dense forested areas and still fight to maintain these inintruded upon wilds.

For a time Navelorn, one of the few holdout agasint the Blood Kings armies along with Westdalia, was the tentiative capital of the lands. But it was uncomfortable as such, having been a hidden haven and mostly a bastion agasint eastern invasion for so long. So the Capitol was moved to Magmabille and increased and more human style building was done there to replace those tree and ground buildings lost during the war.

Yorktown Waters was entered by those that could bare it andcleansed of the mark of death, but the city was abandoned, left as a monument to allthose that had been killed there. Though all the bodies were found and buried, many ghosts haunt the area. The ghosts of non elves as well as the elven banshee wander through the ruins bemoaning the unavenged and untimely death of themselves or loved ones. No one living stays inthe ruins but some small encampment of surviors live not far off and watch over the city like caretakers of a cemetary.

The Temple of Aranithis which was destroyed in Yorktown Waters, was moved and rebuilt in Magmaville along side a new academy dedicated to the study of magic called Stormbringer. This has opened up Magmaville to foreign peoples and brought in many humans as wellas gnomes. all but goblins are freely welcomed and goblins on good behavoir get only the slightest of looks.

Trade has opened up in what the outside world calls Edilar. Through free traders and the Watchers of Twilight, a route is maintained along the coast of Nlood lake form Danvills south through Alermain and past the ruins of Yorktown Waters around to Greellytown in Ruch. also form Alderd trade is handled along the high way form Choupville through Magmaville to Alermain.

A great lord of the elves, named N'var Mistshot, one time elite archer to the king of Edilar, and his men patrol the road betwen Death's Tavern in the heart of the Deep wood to Boardertown on the border of alderd. THis is considered the main trade route of Edilar and so is kept clear of that which would stop such trade. From Death's Tavern traders with permission are allowed to continue on to Navelorn, which has become the main military location of the elves and where rangers and fighter/mages can gain a start in their training and gain experience against the still hostile Horde Landers before moving on to further studies or locatonis to guard the borders of the realm.

The heir to the throne of the kingdom of Edilar is Dylsara Barden who isnow married to Torin Brand the human emperor of the confederation. She has yet to take her seat as Queen, but at Torin's side champions Edilar and raises their son, a half human child conceived in the heart of Edilar at Navelorn.

In her place she leaves a triumverate of elven lords to rule. Their names are unknown outside of certain persons of Edilar, but it is thought that one of them is a very young High Elf, the last to still alive, born some 1200 years ago and so still young enough to live out a normnal life and not prematurely age, weaken and die as the rest have done wihtout the Lunar trees which their spirit had been once tied.

THough many elves stil leave the lands now known as Edilar, it is asked that they never leave for long. In most cases, the elves do not leave at all but continue to live out their way of life as best they can while learning to deal with the foriegn peoples that have entered their lands. This is new to the elves who many had never seen any but elf before. But they have accepted this as the last suggestions of the High Elves, who had never steared them wrong before, was to embrace Humanity and this has been interpreted as being to learn to adapt and live each day as if it were your last.

Edilar
DM
 17:37 on May 01, 2003
Edilar is not a place, it is not a realm or a city, and in fact the elves have only built three places that humans would consider cities, one is Yorktown Waters which is now in ruins and haunted, the other is Magmaville which is growing but trying to maintain its forest roots, the third is the one time elven city of Almenecal which after the burning of the lunar trees of the plains, becaome Coopersville Forge.

Edilar is a concept not a place. It is where the spirits that are the elves live. The Name's roots come form the ideas of shared holiness, knowledge and love between each and every elf and with the land on which they lived.

Anywhere that an elf that has not abandoned his heritiage lives is Edilar. At one time this covered most of the middle part of the continent of Thardferr on the planet of Kyranath. From the crossing river to the far borders of Blood Lake and from the connecting river and the area south of the hill lands, one time all forest, and as far south as the southern coastal desert. It was all Edilar, the home of the elves, the place where elves lived.

As the old saying goes, 'Home is were the heart is.' and this is a perfect way to describe what the word Edilar means. It is the feeling of community, love, connection and harmony shared within the race. There is a magical place in the very essence of each elves spirit, though some deny it and abandone it, that comes from the same elemental fey roots. This shared connection to eternity and life is part of what the elves call Edilar.

But as the elves began to have more contact with other races, particularly the orcs of Ruch and Dwarves of Khardfee, they learned that the maintainance of borders was important. Tribal hunting grounds of different elven havens were overrun and lost to these new races if not guarded or their markings enforced. It took many centuries and mainly the coming of the Syth to Thardferr and war to finaly cause the elves to make a stand and say, "No more." When the goblins came into the central plains, burning the homes of the elves in the Lunar trees to the ground and the elven castle that is now the Imperial Palace of Coopersville Forge was claimed by the Emperors of the humans, the elves retreated to their forests around Blood Lake and to Norben Island. They posted a border guard and patrols to hold out any further intrusion to their surviving tribal havens and formed the greater and lesser houses and their own monarchy in order to counter the attacks of other realms and provide a means of meeting with them.

These became the traditional borders of what outsiders call Edilar, But most elves still consider all of the central plains and especialy where there is still dense groves of trees to be a part of their realm even if few or no elves have been born there in over 500 years.

Edilar is a realm, but it is not a physical place but a spiritual one held in the hearts and minds of every elf that wishes to keep their race and heritage alive. Where there is an elf that still holds respect for his people and a desire to keep them strong and whole, there you will find Edilar.
